The big question to ask yourself once you’ve gotten engaged is “do I want a wedding planner?” Sure you’ve been planning this day your whole life, and who else but you can create your vision, but wedding planners are very useful and if you find the right one, can really help bring the vision of your wedding to life. Here are some other reasons to hire a wedding planner:

1. They are professionals: Wedding planners have obviously been the in the industry much longer than you have so they know there way around venues, vendors, and everything else in between. It’s their job to do all the hard legwork that you might not have the time for.

2. Count on them to give you expert advice: You have spoken to your planner, so they know what vision you have for your big day. With their expertise they can steer you in the right direction when it comes to picking a venue, vendors and other styling tips.

3. Your planner has connections: These connections are so important when your planning a wedding. A planner can have connections to the best vendors in the area who would be more likely to work with someone that they have a good relationship with.

4. Think fast on their feet: Planners are taught to deal with things as they come especially in emergencies. Since it’s going to be your big day, you don’t want to be the one who has to handle everything. Planners are great in those cases where you just want to enjoy your day and not have to worry about anything else.

5. They know their stuff: Planners are always in the know about hot trends of the season. They can suggest great ideas that will really make your wedding stand out from the rest.

Trend We Love- All Nighters

You’ve just spent a year, maybe more, planning this amazing wedding that in the span of 4-5 hours is over. Well, why? Why should your wedding end after that? Why not continue the celebration elsewhere? Many couples are feeling the same way, and some have figured out ways to keep the party going until the wee hours of the morning. Something we recommend is finding a bar, lounge, or even restaurant nearby that is open past the time that your reception ends. Some hotels offer their restaurant bars as a great place to continue the party!

Wedding Traditions and How to Update Them

Weddings today are array of different ideas, colors and styles. But, no matter what budget, theme or style of wedding you are planning, there are some things that every wedding has; the cutting of the cake, the bride and groom not seeing each other before the wedding, and flower bouquets. And one event that you normally attend before the actual wedding is the bridal shower. All of these are  seeped with history and reasoning behind them. Here are some ways to keep the traditions but add your own little spin to them.

1. Bridal Showers

Bridal showers have  an interesting story. They started when the father of the bride disapproved of the groom and would refuse to give a dowry. The brides friends, would then hold a shower as a way to give the bride her own dowry so that she could marry the man she wanted.

Today’s brides have a bridal shower for different reasons but men typically don’t attend them. Some grooms are joining in on the fun, and most couples are now using their bridal showers as a combined engagement party as well.

2. Traditional Wedding Cake

As delicious as cake is, its tradition began when couples in ancient Greece would serve rice cakes as a way to ensure fertility for the couple.

Today’s cakes are getting huge makeovers. A trend we have been seeing lately are naked wedding cakes. We have an entire post about them here.  Some couples are opting to have cupcakes instead of the traditional cake, or even serve frozen yogurt!

3. Not seeing the bride before the wedding

This story is actually one of my favorites. The reason behind the bride and groom not seeing each other was because most weddings used to be arranged, so in order for the groom to not back out, the bride and groom wouldn’t see each other until the walk down the aisle. Most times the bride would wear a very heavy veil, so most times the groom wouldn’t see the bride until after the I do’s!

Today, brides like to see the look of surprise on their grooms face as they walk down the aisle. But the benefits of having a first look outweigh the reasons to not have one.

4. Flower Bouquets

Brides used to walk down the aisle with flowers and herbs to ward off evil spirits and to promote fertility. And you just thought that they looked pretty!

Today, in order to save money and to create something unique, brides are turning to paper/books, pinwheels and fabric’s to create their bouquets. They are a great alternative to flowers because they non-perishable and you can keep your bouquet for as long as you want.

Our Favorite First Dance Songs

first_dance_happy_dip

A couple’s first dance most times is the most romantic part of the wedding (other than saying their vows of course). Some couples have a song that’s “theirs” before they even think about getting married. Other couples specifically choose a song for their big day. We’ve compiled a list of some great first dance songs that, hopefully, you will all enjoy.
